LIBER VALERIO
[We're All Mad in Our Own Way.]
The ruins were bathed in ethereal sunlight that poured through the columns and into the hall, drawing the shadow of a horse upon the wall. As the stallion turned to see what had bitten him in the shoulder, he saw the large silhouette and not realizing that it was he, the brute reared in fear and took off at a panicked run. He managed to bump into what was left of a narrow pillar, its top reaching just about his height. The little structure, weathered with time and wind easily fell over. The two loose pieces then rolled on to fall off the edge of the side where the both crashed down and into the sea. The stallion had mad a frantic attempt to stop the pillars, but his unstable state of mind all he did was move like a mad horse between the two asking them to stop and rethink their paths. He looked over the edge and screamed before daring another peak.
The pilars crashed on a ledge. Oh dear... Then another and another and a good drop of stone fell into the churning sea. His ears, beneath his painted medicine hat, fell to either side rather sheepishly. He looked about to see if anyone had witnessed this ordeal. The last thing he needed was to be thrown out of the South and back to the North again for breaking something. Again he thought. The view from such a high elevation was beginning to make the painted tovero dizzy, and so he pulled back and looked about the empty ruins. No giants chasing him. No trolls, no ghosts. Very good. He decided to proceed, and he kept his ice blue eyes to the ground as he softly counted his steps, moving at a gentle walk. Life had not always been like this. Liber had once been clever and "normal" so to speak, a respected citizen. Until one day he drank of the Dead Creek waters. The waters were known to be toxic to Southerners, but being new to the South he did not know. A sip instantly caused him to collapse. But lo he did not die. What had happened might be considered a great deal worse as he hallucinated, began talking to himself, and was constantly paranoid that someone was out to take his head.
Liber was luck to have come across his cousin Magnus who had offered him a position as some sort of assistant. Liber could not recall the exact title, but he appreciated how his much larger relative had shown kindness towards him. The virile stopped then as he looked up and saw that grounds ahead riddled with cracks. Cracks in the floor were a bad sign...he needed to avoid them at all costs. Oh dear. he muttered to himself.
