So, I got home from work yesterday afternoon. While checking my mail, I witnessed my neighbor kick his Miniature Australian Shepherd across the driveway. He kept telling him to go potty and when it didn't pee, he kicked it across the driveway. I let my own dog out to go to the bathroom last night and it was freezing outside. His dog was sitting on his back steps shivering in the cold. (It was maybe 26 degrees outside?) It was so scared when I walked over to it that he tucked his tail and actually whined when I touched him. So, I know it was wrong, but I just picked him up and took him inside. I gave him a bath (because he was so dirty and covered in mattes) Anywho, I took him to the vet this morning because he seemed to be in pain. The vet said he had so broken ribs and a large bruise on his stomach. I left him there to get pain medication. The vet said they'd actually had issues with the dog being brought in my his owner with similar injuries and they had wondered if the dog was being abused.
Neighbor came over about a half hour ago looking for his dog. I simply told him he needed to call the vet. Apparently he just called the vet and they said they couldn't release the dog to him, that he needed to surrender the dog or that Animal Control would file animal cruelty charges. So, I called the vet to find out what he decided to do and they said he surrendered the dog. So, it looks like I have a new dog. XD The vet said that they would treat the dog and release it to me if I wanted to keep it (since I have good standing with my other dog at the vet.) Otherwise, they would send it to the shelter after it was treated and put him up for adoption.
So now I need to come up with name for him. I don't think my neighbor really ever named him. Any ideas? (I think he bought him for his girlfriend who broke up with him and he refused to let her keep the dog afterwards.) He's a Red Tri Australian Shepherd, about a year and a half, so still a baby.
